Askham Bog & Bishopthorpe

Tuesday 15thSeptember 2026 – Askham Bog & Bishopthorpe Wanderer

Join me as we explore Askham Bog, on the south eastern side of the city of York ‘a Cathedral of Nature Conservation’ in the words of Sir David Attenborough, followed by a walk down part of the old railway, Solar System Path (passing the Sun we will reach Jupiter) to the lovely village of Bishopthorpe for coffee and refreshments before returning to the car park at Askham Bog

Meet - 10 am Askham Bog car park (free) YO23 2UB

The car park is a 10 minute walk from Askham Bar Park & Ride bus stop

Length of walk – approx. 3.5 miles/6km

Finish - Askham Bog car park – approx. 12.30pm

Terrain – a mixture of wooden board walks, tarmac and off-road paths, this is not normally a muddy walk…

Refreshments in Bishopthorpe.

Toilets at Askham Bar Park & Ride

Cost - £10 per head (or £70 Subscription for Autumn 2026 with a guaranteed 10 walks on a Tuesday and half price other walks, see my Facebook page or website for more details). Cash preferred but bank transfer always available. I am currently looking into electronic payments using my phone.
