 FISHERGATE AMBLE
Length: 5.5km/3.5miles
Time: Approx. 2 hours (*depending on café stop)
Start: Fishergate Bar, York, YO1 9PX
Finish: Fishergate Bar


Terrain: A mixture of pavement, riverside paths and field paths (be prepared for some mud)
*Café stop at Cycle Heaven, Hospital Fields Lane if requested.


Join me as we head south from York’s city walls on a walk packed with stories and surprises. This route follows two rivers, uncovers York’s industrial past, and wanders along the beautiful New Walk — a tree-lined avenue created in the 1730s for Georgian residents to promenade. Along the way, discover York’s military connections, a hidden railway, and cross one of the city’s great Strays. Keep your eyes open too — we’ll even pass the grave of one of history’s most infamous highway robbers.
