Saturday 19th September 2026 – Wolds Saturday - Cowlam & Cottam Round
Join me for a walk in the High Wolds between the two now deserted medieval villages of Cowlam and Cottam, along the way we will pass a working Church in a farmyard (yes really), follow the course of three dry valleys, pass a ruined Church and cross the site of a long forgotten World War 2 RAF base, all this and more…
Meet - 10 am at the hamlet of Cowlam, YO25 3AD

Directions - from Sledmere take the B1253 Bridlington Road east
Turn right at Cowlam crossroads, signed to Driffield and Cowlam
Half a mile down the road park considerately on the verge near Church Farm
Length of walk – approx. 6miles/9km
Finish – approx. 1-2pm
Terrain – Off road, potential for mud, up and down Wolds Valleys
Refreshments – none on the route, please bring your own food and drink, we will stop for lunch along the way. Afterwards, we will drive to the Triton Arms at Sledmere for a post walk pint (not obligatory though)
Toilets – none on route
Dogs on leads please.
Cost - £10 per head (or half price with Tuesday walking Group subscription, see my Facebook page or website for more details). Cash preferred but bank transfer always available. I am currently looking into electronic payments using my phone.
